  • New product development in the West Midlands region of the UK Jewellery manufacturing industry – evaluating the impact of design support.
  • Date Published 01/05/2007

This paper draws on empirical data from a series of in-depth case studies on jewellery companies who have received design assistance through the Jewellery Industry Innovation Centre (JIIC) New Product Development programme (NPD).

It is a study of the effects of the programme on design strategies in smaller firms, with particular reference to the non-economic impacts of design and business performance. The case studes were drawn from clients who participated in a European Regional Development Funded project delivered by the JIIC.

The paper includes some initial conclusions about the effects and consequences of this form of industry support.
